Laser Welded Pillow Plates
Thin plates, high-pressure ratings, engineered heat transfer surfaces for tanks, chillers and process vessels.
Thin plates, high-pressure ratings, engineered heat transfer surfaces for tanks, chillers and process vessels.
Prime Coil’s laser-welded pillow plates are engineered heat transfer surfaces that pair unusually thin gauge material with high pressure ratings — a combination made possible by our in-house laser welding capability.
The technology allows us to build heat exchangers that transfer heat faster, weigh less, and take up smaller footprints than conventional plate constructions. Available in both single and double embossed configurations, they serve as the working surface inside bulk milk coolers, tank walls, chillers, immersion coolers, and process vessels across the food, dairy, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries.
Each plate is manufactured on our own laser welding line to consistent weld quality, then pressure tested before dispatch — no third-party welding, no variable finish across batches.
Built to run, season after season.
In-house laser welding
Manufactured on our own laser welding line — no third-party dependency, consistent weld quality across batches, faster turnaround on custom sizes.
Thin plates, high pressures
Laser welding lets us use thinner gauge material without sacrificing pressure rating. Less material, better heat transfer, lower weight per unit of exchange area.
Food-grade construction
SS 304 as standard, SS 316 available for aggressive media. Passes hygienic surface requirements for food, dairy and pharma applications.
Optimised turbulence pattern
The embossing pattern induces controlled turbulence that improves heat transfer coefficient and reduces fouling from lime, algae or process deposits.
Custom geometry
Round, rectangular, curved, and conical plates fabricated to match your tank or vessel envelope. No forcing your process into a standard footprint.
Wide media compatibility
Water, steam, glycol, thermal oil, Freon, ammonia (NH₃) and CO₂ — one plate technology for cooling, heating and refrigeration duty.

Product questions, answered.
What's the difference between single and double embossed plates?
Single embossed plates have one flat side, making them ideal for tank walls where the flat side must be hygienic and easy to clean — bulk milk coolers, food-grade tanks. Double embossed plates have both sides embossed and function as standalone heat exchangers, used in falling film chillers, immersion coolers, and heat recovery.
What refrigerants and media are compatible?
SS 304 and SS 316 construction handles a wide range: water, steam, glycol, thermal oil, Freon (HFC) refrigerants, ammonia (NH₃), and CO₂. The right choice depends on operating pressure and whether food-grade contact is required. Our engineers will confirm the right combination for your application.
What operating pressures do they handle?
Up to 25 bar as a general rule, with the specific rating depending on plate thickness, embossing pattern depth, and media. Laser welding is what makes high pressure with thin plates possible — conventional welding methods can't achieve the same strength-to-weight ratio.
Can you make custom shapes and sizes?
Yes — this is one of the main reasons customers choose laser welded plates. We fabricate round, rectangular, curved, and conical plates sized to your tank or vessel envelope. In-house manufacturing means no minimum quantity for custom sizes.
Are these food-grade for dairy and beverage applications?
Yes. Single embossed plates present a food-grade stainless steel surface on the flat side, which contacts the product. Surface finish, weld quality and material grade all meet dairy industry requirements. Common applications include bulk milk coolers, milk storage tanks, beer and wine cooling.
Do you supply installation and commissioning support?
Yes. For customers building tanks, chillers or vessels around our plates, we provide fabrication drawings, integration support, and pressure test certificates. For complete systems, our engineering team handles design, supply, installation and commissioning.
Every laser welded pillow plate we ship is a bespoke item — designed for your vessel, your process fluid, and your operating conditions. Send us your requirement and we'll size the exchanger, quote the material, and typically ship within four weeks.
Capacities & model codes
Single Embossed Tank Plates
One flat side, one embossed side. The flat face becomes the hygienic surface — welded or bolted to the inside of a tank so process fluid never contacts the pillow geometry. Refrigerant or cooling media flows through the embossed side.
- Flat face for hygienic tank interior
- Ideal for bulk milk coolers and food-grade tanks
- Withstands high operating pressures despite thin gauge
- Round, rectangular or curved to match tank geometry
Double Embossed Plates
Both sides embossed. Used as a standalone heat exchanger where process media flows across one face and refrigerant through the other — falling film chillers, immersion coolers, and heat recovery duties.
- Ideal for liquids, powders and granules
- Falling film chillers and immersion coolers
- Compatible with water, steam, glycol, Freon, NH₃ and CO₂
- Custom dimensions and hole patterns available
